Compare job offers on more than salary, inside ChatGPT.

Tobie Total Rewards is a free calculator for ChatGPT. Describe up to five offers in plain words and it lines them up component by component: pay, guaranteed and conditional bonuses, signing cash and what you might have to repay, your health premiums, employer HSA money, the retirement match and how it vests. It also works out the salary one offer would need to match another.

Offer A: $100,000, 100% match on the first 5% (I put in 6%), $200 a month medical, $1,000 HSA. Offer B: $108,000, 50% match on the first 6%, $400 a month medical, no HSA. Both vest immediately.

Selected components ledgerper year

Illustration with the made-up terms from the worked example below. The ledger is a subtotal of stated components, not take-home pay; taxes are never calculated.

What it calculates

Nine figures, each from the terms you give it.

The calculator lines up what each offer states, keeps guaranteed money apart from conditional money, and never fills a gap with an assumption. Equity stays in its own panel.

What it does not do

Annual pay

From a salary, or from hourly rates and the hours you state. No assumed hours or overtime.

Guaranteed versus conditional cash

Guaranteed bonuses count; target bonuses are shown separately and never treated as guaranteed.

Signing bonuses

In first-year cash, with the largest amount you could have to repay on its own line.

Health premiums and employer HSA funding

Your premium and the employer's HSA money, for each offer, so the richer plan shows up in the ledger.

Retirement match

Tiered formulas, caps and vesting at the time horizon you choose. A match you would not yet own is earned but not vested.

A selected components ledger

Base pay + guaranteed bonuses + other guaranteed cash + vested employer match + employer HSA − your health premiums. Clearly named, and not take-home pay.

Salary break-even

The base salary one offer needs for its ledger to equal another's, recalculating a salary-linked match as the salary changes.

Equity, as a separate hypothetical panel

RSU and option values at prices you supply, by year, never added to cash.

Pay per worked hour

If you ask: annual base divided by scheduled hours less the paid time off and holidays you state.

How the numbers are worked out

Every figure has a formula you can read.

All amounts are exact to the cent and rounded once per formula. A term you do not give is reported as missing, never treated as zero.

Match earned
eligible pay × the matched part of your contribution in each tier × that tier's match rate, capped if the plan states a cap
Match vested
match earned × the vested percentage at your horizon (zero before the first vesting step)
Ledger
base + guaranteed recurring bonus + other guaranteed employer cash + vested match + employer HSA − your annual health premium
Break-even salary
the smallest salary, to the cent, at which one offer's ledger reaches the other's, holding every other term fixed
Pay per worked hour
annual base ÷ (scheduled hours − paid leave − holidays)

Worked example

Two offers, one ledger, and the salary that makes them even.

Offer B pays $8,000 more in salary but has a weaker match, a higher premium and no HSA money. The ledger shows how much of the gap survives, and the break-even solve says what salary would close it.

The terms you give it

TermOffer AOffer B
Salary$100,000$108,000
401(k) match100% of the first 5% (you put in 6%)50% of the first 6% (you put in 6%)
Your health premium$200 a month$400 a month
Employer HSA$1,000none
Vestingimmediateimmediate

What the calculator returns

FigureOffer AOffer B
Employer match$5,000.00$3,240.00
Your annual premiums$2,400.00$4,800.00
Selected recurring components ledger$103,600.00$106,440.00

Offer B's ledger is $2,840.00 higher. To make the two even, Offer B would need a base salary of $105,242.72; at that salary its match recalculates to $3,157.28.

Vesting changes the picture

If Offer B's match had a three-year cliff and you expected to leave after one year, its vested match would be $0.00 and its ledger $103,200.00, which is $400.00 below Offer A, while the $3,240.00 earned would still be shown on its own line.

These are hypothetical figures from made-up terms, for illustration. They are not a forecast and not a recommendation.

How to use it

How to compare job offers with ChatGPT

Three steps, two minutes, no account. ChatGPT turns your plain-words description of each offer into the tool's numeric inputs and shows the ledger with its assumptions.

You will need: each offer's salary or hourly rate and hours; guaranteed and target bonuses, and any signing bonus with its repayment terms; your health premium and any employer HSA contribution; the retirement match formula, its cap and its vesting schedule; the time horizon you care about.

  1. 01

    Gather each offer's terms

From the offer letters: salary or hourly pay, bonuses and whether they are guaranteed, signing cash and repayment terms, your health premium, employer HSA funding, the retirement match tiers, cap and vesting schedule. Equity grants with the prices you want to assume, if you want the separate panel.

  2. 02

    Ask in plain words

In ChatGPT with the plugin connected, or any MCP client: "Compare two offers. A: $100,000, 100% match on the first 5%, I put in 6%, $200 a month medical, $1,000 HSA. B: $108,000, 50% match on the first 6%, $400 a month medical, no HSA. Both vest immediately. What salary makes B even with A?"

  3. 03

Read the ledger and the assumptions

The result lists each component, the vested and earned match, the ledger per offer, the break-even salary if you asked, and every assumption and missing term. The ledger is not take-home pay, and taxes are never calculated.

Questions and answers

What Total Rewards does with your offer terms.

Straight answers about what Total Rewards does with your numbers. For the plugins in general, see the main questions page.

What does Tobie Total Rewards calculate?

It compares up to five job offers component by component from the terms you give it: annual pay, guaranteed versus conditional bonuses, signing cash and repayment exposure, your health premiums, employer HSA funding, the retirement match with tiers, caps and vesting, and a clearly named ledger of those stated components. It also solves the salary one offer needs to match another, to the cent.

Is Tobie Total Rewards free? Do I need an account?

Yes, it is free to use, and there is no account, no sign-in and no offer-letter upload. ChatGPT sends the terms from your conversation to the calculator, and the figures come straight back into the chat.

What is the selected recurring components ledger?

A subtotal of the components each offer states: base pay plus guaranteed recurring bonuses plus other guaranteed employer cash plus the vested employer match plus employer HSA money, minus your annual health premium. It is clearly named, and it is not take-home pay: taxes, withholding, target bonuses, equity and employer-paid insurance are never in it.

How does it handle 401(k) matching and vesting?

It applies each tier of the match formula to the part of your contribution in that tier, caps the result if the plan states a cap, then multiplies by the vested percentage at the horizon you chose. The match earned and the match vested are both shown, so a three-year cliff at a one-year horizon reads as $0.00 vested with the earned amount still visible.

What is the salary break-even?

The smallest base salary, to the cent, at which one offer's ledger reaches another's, holding every other term fixed. If the match is a percentage of salary, it is recalculated as the salary changes. In the worked example, Offer B needs $105,242.72 to match Offer A.

Does it count target bonuses or equity as pay?

No. Target bonuses are reported separately and never treated as guaranteed. Equity is shown in its own hypothetical panel, as RSU or option values at prices you supply by year, and is never added to cash or the ledger.

Does it calculate taxes or take-home pay?

No. It does not calculate taxes, withholding or take-home pay, and it does not benchmark salaries against the market. Every result carries a notice that the ledger is not take-home pay.

Can it compare hourly offers?

Yes. Annual pay for an hourly offer comes from the rates and the hours per week and weeks per year you state, with no assumed hours or overtime. If you ask, it also reports pay per worked hour after the paid time off and holidays you give it.

What happens to the numbers I enter?

Nothing is kept. The calculator stores no inputs, no results, no account and no cookie. A short technical log per request records which tool ran and whether it succeeded, with no amounts and no IP address. Nothing is reported to an employer, and nothing is sent to any AI model by Tobie.

Is it available in the ChatGPT app directory today?

Not yet. The plugin is not listed in ChatGPT yet. Its MCP endpoint, https://plugins.tobie.team/mcp/total-rewards, is live for developer-mode users and any MCP client. This page will link to the listing the day it is live.

What it does not do

The edges, stated plainly.

The calculator lines up what each offer states. It does not estimate what an offer leaves out, and it never turns a hypothetical into cash.

  • It does not calculate taxes, withholding or take-home pay.
  • It does not benchmark salaries against the market.
  • It does not value equity you may never receive; equity figures are illustrations at the prices you give.
  • It does not give investment, tax or legal advice, exercise options, or change payroll elections.
  • It does not rank candidates or employees, and it must not be used to.
  • It does not read offer letters or connect to any employer system in this release.

Add it to your ChatGPT

Four clicks, two minutes, nothing to install.

The plugins are not listed in ChatGPT yet. Until they are, you add Total Rewards to your own ChatGPT by pasting its address, the same way you would any custom MCP server. The server is stateless and exposes one tool, compare_job_offers, with a strict input schema.

  1. Open chatgpt.com/plugins

Sign in to ChatGPT as usual. Click Add, then Add custom MCP server.

  2. Name it and paste the address

Name: Tobie Total Rewards. Under Connection, choose Server URL and paste this address:

    https://plugins.tobie.team/mcp/total-rewards

  3. Choose no authentication, then create

There is nothing to sign in to. Read ChatGPT's notice, choose I understand and want to continue, then Create as a plugin. ChatGPT shows the one tool it found.

  4. Use it in any chat

Start a new chat, type @, pick Tobie Total Rewards, and ask your question in plain words.

Adding a custom MCP server needs a ChatGPT plan that allows it; in a company workspace an admin may need to turn that on. For the other calculator, repeat these steps with https://plugins.tobie.team/mcp/benefits-compare.
